Near Perfect Afternoon of Sailing!
After the very strong wind that smashed our southern state friends and moved all the way up the eastern seaboard, it was a welcome relief to enjoy a near perfect afternoon of sailing on our bay. The talk in the bar afterwards was the unpredictability of the wind shifts and how to manage the challenging ebb tide. Conditions like this always bring out the best!
A running reach from the start boat to the western cardinal and all the way to the floating red at St. Helena was a lovely ride before a port turn and a very bumpy beat into the ebb tide to Hope Banks. It always keeps skippers and crew thinking of tactics and which way to go. It looks like the top finishers went east at the floating red and laid Hope Banks. It makes no sense; one would have thought the tide would be a big influence out there? However there must have been more breeze. Another port turn at Hope Banks and the crew had a rest and probably quite refreshment on a run home past Lockyer Light and to the finish boat just outside the harbour entrance. Awesome arvo!!!
A big thanks to Don who looked after WAGS last week.
